TOWN OF WHITE LAKE

COVID-19 Bulletin #1

March 27, 2020

As part of the Town of White Lake’s continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to the Declaration of a State of Emergency, it is hereby ordered that all non-resident property owners or renters will be prohibited from entering the Town of White Lake beginning Friday, March 27, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

There shall also be a discontinuance of All Short-term Rental Operations including but not limited to, campgrounds, motels, and other rental properties.  Short term rentals shall be defined as a rental period of less than 90 days.  Effective immediately:

  1. There will be no new rental occupancies of a duration of less than 90 days allowed within the Town of White Lake until at least April 30, 2020.  Any individuals currently occupying rental property on a short-term basis may fulfill the existing written contract period but in no event shall remain later than March 31, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

  1. The following exemptions apply: Individuals or entities renting within the Town for purposes of providing essential public services as determined by the Town and including, but not limited to, health care personnel.

  1. All on-street parking of unauthorized vehicles is prohibited.  Government agencies, town employees and authorized contractors of the Town are exempt from this regulation.

The intent of this declaration is to decrease the risk of exposure and limit the spread of COVID-19 in White Lake by eliminating non-essential travel, thereby reducing the number of individuals in the Town and ultimately reducing potential virus spread and the burden on our healthcare system and other essential businesses.  It is imperative to take measures to mitigate the consequences of COVID-19 and not overwhelm our healthcare system so it can care for those who are at most risk and continue to provide routine medical and emergency services.  Previous restrictions from the Governor and Bladen County Commissioners including the prohibition of mass gatherings remain in place.

I strongly encourage all citizens to stay at home in an attempt to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.  While this proclamation may be disappointing for many people who enjoy spending time at White Lake, these decisions are made in the interest of preserving the public health, safety and welfare of our community.  The Board of Commissioners and I appreciate your understanding for any inconvenience this may cause.  Our priority is keeping our residents and you safe and healthy.

H. Goldston Womble, Jr.

Coronavirus: White Lake has worship modification, but keeps town prohibitions through May 8

April 24, 2020

By: Alan Wooten - Bladen Journal

WHITE LAKE — The “no visitors” policy of this residential resort community will remain intact through at least May 8.

Mayor Goldston Womble, acting in accord with Gov. Roy Cooper’s decision on Thursday, said in a Friday news release that White Lake would extend its State of Emergency declaration to the second Friday of next month. This means there is no ease of restrictions for the majority what the mayor instituted on March 27.

There is one change from the order on March 27. Drive-in church services may be held as long as those attending meet the 6-foot social distancing recommendation and stay in their vehicle; no window to window parking, with “staggering” approach highly recommended; and vehicle occupants are restricted to immediate family and household members.

Failure to comply with any of the measures is a class 2 misdemeanor.

The order covers the corporate jurisdiction of the town. The rest of the details are the same as the original:

  • Nonresident property owners or renters are prohibited from entering the town. This went into effect Friday at 5 p.m.
  • All short-term rental operations, defined as less than 90 days, are to be discontinued. This includes but is not limited to campgrounds, motels and rental properties.
  • No new rental occupancies of a duration of less than 90 days are allowed until at least April 30. Individuals occupying rental property on a short-term basis may fulfill the written contract period but in no event shall remain later than March 31 at 5 p.m., the bulletin reads.
  • There are exemptions: those renting who provide essential public services as determined by the town of White Lake. This would include, but is not limited to, health-care personnel.
  • On-street parking of unauthorized vehicles is prohibited. Exemptions include government agencies, town employees and authorized contractors of the town.
